80th Anniversary Of D-DAY - Thursday 6th June 2024
The 80th Anniversary of D-Day will be commemorated by the Liss Branch of the Royal British Legion with the raising of the Union Flag at the RBL Club in Rake Road at 09:00 on Thursday, the 6th of June. The first seaborne troops were landing in Normandy at this time, with the very first unit ashore being the 1st Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment. Earlier Airborne Forces had landed, among them was a Liss man, Gunner Alec Bicknell RA, HQ 6 Airborne Division, who was killed on D-Day, and is one of the 32 WW2 names on the Liss Memorial.
